The Church of the Good Shepherd was established as a rural parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1872.  In 1891, the church moved to its current location in Hazelwood on the corner of Second and Johnston Avenuesw.  In today's world, Hazelwood is no longer a rural neighborhood, but is an Urban area located conveniently within minutes of Downtown Pittsburgh, the Southside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland and West Mifflin.

Our worship service is evangelical and yet, liturgical, as we use incense, bells and the wearing of ceremonial vestments.  The music is an inspirational blend of traditional, gospel and contemporary praise songs.

The preaching is Bible based, and some say it is anointed.  The messages are biblically relevant to our lives and they address the issues we face in day-to-day living and re-assure us of the overcoming power of, and hope in, Jesus Christ.

The church's congregation is a delightful mixture of people from a variety of backgrounds, and denominations.  A number of the people are native to Hazelwood, a number of them travel from close-by neighborhoods, while others come from father away.  The congregation is racially and ethnically mixed, kind of what you would imaigine heaven would be.

".........a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes and peoples, and tongues, standing before the Lamb.....(Revelations 7:9)"

In November of 2008, the parish voted to realign with the Anglican Church.  If you interested in worshipping in an urban parish that loves Jesus, and is in the midst of renewal; and, if you want a church that will provide opportunities for you to use your godly gifts for ministry, and if you want to become a "beacon of light" for Jesus, not only in this church and community, but in His Kingdom, the Good Shepherd is the right church for you.

We welcome anyone who is seeking a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and who wants to be a "doer of the word:. (James 1:22)
